The Idea Club’s New Guest Was Prof. Dr. Ayhan Kaya

Migration and social cohesion talks which we conduct in our association continue. We add a new one to these talks, which we made before with Ferhat Kentel, Murat Erdoğan and Abdulhalim Yılmaz, on 24th September. In our 4th session, Prof. Dr. Ayhan Kaya was with us with his speech named “Community Involvement and From Tolerance to Respect in Harmonization Period “Community Involvement and From Tolerance to Respect in Adaption Process”

Prof. Dr. Ayhan Kaya started his speech by referring to the migration experiences of our geography in the past. One of the main themes emphasized by Prof. Dr. Ayhan Kaya was the fact that we are not foreign to migration and that we are a society accustomed to it. In his speech, Ayhan Kaya questioned the concepts such as “tolerance” and ”guest”, which came into our concept map after the migration crisis that started in 2011. He seeked the origins of this concepts ethymologically and outlined the sociological meanings in the migration studies. The right-based approach and the fact that we all have to accept each other with these defined rights constituted one of the most fundamental building blocks of speech. One of the most interesting aspects of the conversation was the academic classification of the different characteristics and policies of immigration policies.
