At Refugees Association in Sultanbeyli Community Center, a training was organized for the legal awareness of marriage at an early age in the presence of a lawyer from the International Blue Crescent Foundation (IBC), where women and men participants were together. In this training which was conducted interactively by asking participants some questions firstly the concept and importance of “childhood” was mentioned and then the basic legal information about marriages at early ages was given.
Causes of Early Marriages
According to the participants, the reasons for early marriage are based on socio-cultural and economic bases. In the training which lasted for 2 hours it has been stated that marriage affects children’s psychological, sociological and health development in a negative way. A warning was given about the consequences of early marriages such as crime and punishment. This training which had the aim of preventing early marriages by training families was organized by Refugees Association and with the support of its partner United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), has a great importance in terms of constituting an awareness.
