I\u2019m Sara. I lived in Antakya, Hatay. On the morning of February 6, everything changed in an instant. I was trapped under the rubble for three days \u2014 in darkness, cold, and fear. I lost my father and two siblings. In that moment, it wasn\u2019t just a building that collapsed \u2014 my entire world did.<\/p>\n
I was treated at Adana City Hospital for two and a half months. My left leg was amputated above the knee. Later, we moved to Istanbul. I tried to walk with crutches, but wherever I went, I was seen not for who I was, but for what I had lost. Even around my family, I couldn\u2019t feel at ease. I withdrew to my room, trying to hide myself. The wounds on my body were deep, but those inside me were even deeper.<\/p>\n
When I first applied to the M\u00fclteciler Rehabilitation Center a year and a half ago, I was still broken… but somewhere inside, there was a little hope. Thirty sessions of physical therapy, massages, sensory exercises, psychotherapy \u2014 a patient and compassionate journey. With support from Limbfit and the Refugee Association, I received my prosthetic leg. When I took my first step, I couldn\u2019t hold back my tears. Because it wasn\u2019t just a step \u2014 it was the courage to say, \u201cI\u2019m still here.\u201d
\nNow, every morning, I put on my prosthesis and walk to school. Head held high. No longer needing anyone\u2019s help.<\/p>\n
I still carry the pain of my loss, but I no longer carry it alone. Thanks to the professional teams that follow my process, I didn\u2019t just learn to walk again \u2014 I learned to hope again. I learned to smile again.
\nAnd now, I want to be a light for other Sara\u2019s. Because I know \u2014 even in the darkest moments, a light can shine.<\/p>\n
